SHUT UP & LISTEN: GLORIA

Say hello to Gloria! Gloria is our new instructor around town, she’s starting a 6x week course in Island Bay this October dedicated to Queen B and we cannot wait for you to meet her!

Gloria dances with a smile on her face wearing a black shut up and dance t-shirt, with black leggings. The background is a brick wall, the sun is shining

Photo cred: Sambath Ouch

My name is: Gloria (feel free to have a go at a nickname – many have tried).

Coordination level: Olympic gymnast

I’m happiest when I’m bed on a weekend morning with a coffee, a book, and my tuxedo cat.

My favourite “guilty” pleasure song is any filthy EDM banger!

Best music Video of all time: OK Go on the treadmills

Something that I continually ask myself is will generative AI melt our brains? 🫠💥

Why do you think dance is important? Dance is joyful and playful and for absolutely everyone

And how does it show up in the other areas of your life? It makes me feel more confident and helps me live a little easier in my body 💪🫶

Something that has changed since my first Shut Up & Dance class is my willingness to be silly in front of an audience.

The Shut Up & Dance routine that best describes me is Bootylicious – Destiny’s Child. No explanation needed.

My life motto is “What Would My Gal Pals Do?”

To pay the bills I work in the famously lucrative fields of health and education

If money was no object I would always have a perfect builder gel manicure 💅💅💅

My most dorky moment this week took place at a ballroom dancing social at the Whangaparaoa Hall (don’t ask 😂)

My favourite artists are all sad indie rockers who are very difficult to dance to…

The world would be a better place with widespread institution of the thirty-hour work week

The routine I want to learn the most is Toxic – Britney Spears

If I were a cake I would be beautifully iced.

We’re so excited for Gloria to bring her smarts, enthusiasm and care to the SU&D Squad, and if you live around Island Bay consider dropping into her new Beyoncé course Wednesdays 7:45pm at the Community Centre!
